Yun County (Yunxian) is located in the northeastern part of Lincang City, Yunnan Province. It borders Lincang and Gengma counties to the south, Fengqing and Yongde counties to the west, and is separated from Nanjian County in Dali Prefecture by the Lancang River to the north.
This tea cake is made from pure material harvested from ancient tea trees in Yunxian. The trees are around 100 years old and grow at elevations of 1,800 to 2,000 meters in the mountainous area of Manwan Township, which lies across the Lancang River from Jingdong County to the east.
Upon opening the cake, the dry leaves appear robust and long, with a mix of dark green, light green, and silvery tips. The dry tea carries an elegant wild floral aroma. After warming and awakening the leaves in a gaiwan, the fragrance intensifies, revealing a richer floral scent intertwined with a light, delicate honey note.
The tea liquor is a clear greenish-yellow with good clarity and brightness. The first sip delivers a silky, full-bodied texture that soothes the throat and quenches thirst. Bitterness is minimal, with barely noticeable astringency, offering a fresh and refined profile. Upon further tasting, the tea reveals a quick-returning sweetness and strong salivation, with a sweet aroma gently diffusing in the mouth—graceful, nuanced, and deeply comforting. The fragrance lingers in the cup, light and long-lasting.
The infused leaves are soft, with well-defined veins. After steeping, the leaves resemble silk—stretchable and resilient to the touch.
This tea can be brewed using boiling water throughout the entire session. A short infusion of around 10 seconds is sufficient at first. Even after more than ten infusions, a longer steeping with boiling water still produces a sweet and flavorful brew. The 2019 Yunxian pure material tea is especially suitable for those new to Pu-erh tea or for tea-loving women seeking a gentle, pleasant drinking experience.
