Nestled in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, the Bulang Mountain tea-growing area was originally the site of the state-owned Menghai Tea Factory's primary processing facility. The Bulang Mountain Township, located in the southeastern part of Menghai County, is home to the Bulang people, descendants of the ancient Pu people, who are considered the pioneers of tea art—they were the first to cultivate, produce, and consume tea. The tea plants in this region are predominantly Yunnan large-leaf varietal arbor-type wild tea trees.
The 2019 & 2025 spring harvest tea cake is made from tea trees approximately a century old. The dry tea leaves exhibit a rich and complex wild honey aroma, with the cake showcasing robust, long, and well-defined leaves. The color palette of the dry cake is a balanced mix of dark green, verdant green, and white buds. When awakened in a warmed cover bowl or Yixing teapot, the fragrance transforms into an elegant floral scent intertwined with subtle honey notes.
The brewed tea presents a yellowish-brown liquor, transparent and bright. The initial infusion offers a smooth, layered, and full-bodied texture, moisturizing the throat and stimulating salivation, while the aroma lingers persistently at the bottom of the cup. Any astringency or bitterness transforms quickly, leaving a pleasant sweetness that remains in the mouth, with a rich and evolving profile. The tea energy of this Bulang Mountain tea is notably more potent compared to teas of the same vintage from Yiwu or Yun County. Even after multiple infusions, the cup aroma remains robust and long-lasting. The brewed tea leaves are soft and tender, with excellent elasticity.
Bulang Mountain tea can be brewed with water temperature around 92–95°C. After breaking the cake, the loose tea requires only about ten to fifteen seconds for the first infusion. Even after more than ten steeps, an extended infusion of several minutes with boiling water still yields a sweet and pleasant liquor. The 2019 & 2025 Bulang Mountain pure material tea is characterized by its pure, substantial texture and powerful tea energy, making it an ideal choice for enthusiasts who prefer a stronger taste profile or experienced connoisseurs familiar with Pu'erh tea.
